About SCCan
Security Communities Canada (SCCan), an initiative of the National Research Council (NRC) and its partner, the Canadian Police Research Centre (CPRC), was created after the 9-11 events when CPRC recognized:
- Canada needs to accelerate the development of innovative security and public safety products and services in a timely fashion because, as a nation, we do not know our Canadian companies, their technology, products and services,
- There is no effective mechanism for networking and introducing security technology companies to their fellow companies and more importantly to the users, the first responder communities who could use their products,
- There is not an effective mechanism to introduce and assist companies of the newly formed government(s) security initiatives and programs (both in Canada and the United States) that are intended to assist and accelerate security technology innovations in Canada.
The SCCan role is to take aim at addressing this situation by supporting the necessary dialogue and interaction to get security issues dealt with today rather than tomorrow. For Canada it means opportunities, jobs, consulting, products and system integration for Canada and the international community. Since 9-11 a list of over 400 Canadian enterprises has been identified and can be found in the Security Expertise Database.
